In an effort to continually frustrate their fanbase the Yankees have outright released minor league player David Adams and decided to give Lyle Overbay an opportunity to make the team as a backup first baseman.
Overbay had been released by the Red Sox and no sooner than he was released he was headed to the Yankees spring training stadium to play some first base for them. With Mark Teixiera out indefinitely with a bad forearm the Yankees are hoping that they catch lightning in a bottle with Lyle Overbay.
Earlier they also outright released David Adams. Adams hasn’t played above Double A yet and he’s always hurt but Yankee fans nonetheless were furious with the move as Adams as shown some promise with the stick when he wasn’t on a pair of sticks limping around.
This week has seen the Yankees make some pretty perplexing moves and it seems the fans aren’t happy at all about them. Opening day is just days away so it remains to be seen how this all works out.
In a move that’s perplexing to many Yankee fans the Yankees have traded for Vernon Wells and his the remainder of his awful contract. However they will only be on the hook for about 13 million dollars in total and Vernon is still only 34 so he may have something left in the tank. Many fans preferred that the Yankees just stick with what they had and and let AAA player Ronnier Mustelier make the team as the other outfielder.
What the move does have accomplish is added depth to the roster that was sorely lacking in outfielder depth after not re-signing Nick Swisher and losing Curtis Granderson for a good chunk of the beginning of the season. Wells will also still be around next year if the Yankees fail to re-sign Curtis Granderson next offseason.

Recently released Detroit Tiger’s outfielder Brennan Boesch has been signed by the Yankees as their new Right Fielder. After not re-signing Nick Swisher last year and watching Curtis Granderson go down with an arm injury earlier in spring training the Yankees were without any obvious replacements to play outfield for them until Granderson returned from his injury.
They did have some internal options however in cuban defector and utility player Ronnier Mustelier who’s done nothing buy hit in the minors since joining he Yankees, and flawed minor leaguers Zoilo Amonte and Melky Mesa. Granderson is expected back in May and his replacement didn’t figure to be in the big leagues too long.
If it were up to me I would have just gone in house and used a combination of the above players until Granderson returned. However, lately it seems the Yankees are more interested in having a veteran player on the team than taking chances with unproven minor league players.
The book on both Mustelier and Almonte are that both are poorish defenders while Mesa is a strikeout machine but is also an excellent defender with power when he does connect. There weren’t any clear answers with any of the players above, however many Yankee fans feel that they should take a chance and see what they actually have in the minors considering the age of the team and the fragility of some of the players that are on the team now.
Just two days after being released by the Tigers, Brennan Boesch has landed with another 2012 playoff team.
The Yankees signed Brennan Boesch to a Major Legue Deal.
In their frantic search for an outfielder, the Yankees gave this man a major-league contract and a spot on the 40-man roster. Was there a good reason, or was Cashman just wigging out on Vicodin?
The Giants have decided to let Cruz field offers from other teams by allowing him to become a restricted free agent and offering him a one year deal worth less than 3 million.
The Giants however say they would still like to be the team that eventually signs Cruz. Cruz has hired superagent Tom Condon in hopes to receive a lucrative contract offer. Cruz who’s from the NJ area has stated that he would like to stay with the team, however he’s looking at the process as a business.
The Giants have placed a first round tender on a wide receiver, so any team that signs him will also have to part with a first round draft pick. This should get interesting.

On SNY they’re wondering if Cruz will receive any other offers.
The NFL free agency window is already four hours old and no word on whether Giants RFA WR Victor Cruz will receive an offer from any prospective new suitors. The Daily News Live panel discusses whether Victor Cruz will receive any contract offers after the Giants gave him a first-round tender.
00 pm ET on Tuesday, Giants receiver Victor Cruz secures the ability to negotiate with any other team in the league. But since he’s a restricted free agent, subject to the machinations of a seven-day period for matching any offers received, it’s not likely that anyone will make an early run at Cruz.
Tom Condon has also done deals for Eli Manning and Mathias Kiwanuka.
Another day, another injury to a Yankee player this Spring Training. Mark Teixeira will miss at least 8 to 10 weeks with a strained right wrist tendon. Of course Teixeira wasn’t even with the team at the time of the injury and he suffered it in the batting cages at the World Baseball Classic. This is the same injury that cause Blue Jay outfielder Jose Bautista to have season ending surgery at the end of last year. Teix is now the latest in a long line of Yankees who are either injured or coming back from injury this year. Teixeira joings Curtis Granderson who is in the midst of his own DL stint after injuring his foreman when he was hit by a pitch earlier this spring training. This latest injury will certainly test the Yankees depth, although it may give some of the youngsters in the minors a chance to come to bigs and show their worth.

The Heat ran their win streak to a franchise record 14 games as the heat slammed the door on NY in the 4th quarter. Carmelo Anthony scored 32 points but was simply outplayed as Lebron put up an all around impressive game. Wade scored only 20 points but it was enough to help Miami extend their winning streak and end the Knicks modest 3 game win streak.
NY scored 37 points in the 2nd quarter then proceeded to score only 34 points in the entire 2nd half.

Ichiro Suzuki who will be the Yankees starting right fielder was uninjured in a car crash yesterday despite totaling his car in the process. He’ll still be examined by team doctors before he’s cleared to play but all in all it seems that the accident will be a non-issue. The Yankees can ill afford to lose another outfielder after losing Curtis Granderson for the next 9 weeks due to a broken forearm caused by getting hit by a pitch during a spring training game.
But he came out completely unscathed. George A King III of the New York Post tells the story. Ichiro was headed south in his Land Rover on a Tampa highway around 4 pm when he hit Linda Trange Le, who failed to yield the right of way when making a left hand turn in front of Ichiro, according to Tampa police.

The Heat have been on a roll, steamrolling their opponents through their current 13 game winning streak. Despite their record and Lebron’s play this year however they haven’t been able to solve the NY Knicks through their first 2 encounters. The Knicks are currently 6.5 games out of 1st in the Eastern conference and are looking to close the gap starting tonight.
The Knicks have cooled off considerably after their blazing hot start, however they are still tied for 2nd place in the conference and after beating the Wizards on Friday night they have a their own modest 2 game winning streak that they would like to extend to 3 games starting tonight.
